Kiwi passed peacefully in the lap of his mom of approximately 17 years on Sunday, April 8th, 2018. He was at home and surrounded by his dad of 2 years and his pack, known collectively as “Squad”.
Kiwi was adopted by his mom, Kristina Wangler, in November of 2002 from the SPCA of Houston. He instantly became a dog known by many. He had an absolute obsession with tennis balls and once lunged at the throat of a full-size Doberman for taking his ball at the dog park. Kiwi impressed most people he came into contact with. Someone even offered money to his mom to purchase him because he was so unique and captivating. In addition to tennis balls, Kiwi was also very fond of cat treats. Silas, Kiwi’s human brother, theorized that Kiwi was a cat in his previous life due to his love of catfood and treats. As Kiwi’s vision failed near the end of his life, it only took the scent of catfood to suddenly bring him back to 20/20 vision.
Kiwi enjoyed many activities. Some of these included snuffling at the base of closed doors, riding in cars, rolling on his back so aggressively that he would become u-shaped, baths then being blow dried and catfood, again, because it was that important to him it needed to be mentioned twice. He was also a huge fan of butt scratches and learned how to effectively “back that ass up” against coffee tables when nobody was around to do it for him. If Kiwi could enter a twerking contest, he would win.
Kiwi will be incredibly missed by many, but none more so than his mom. Kiwi was there for every major milestone in her life—Graduating high school, breakups, moving to a new city, having a child—exactly half of her life was lived with Kiwi by her side. In addition to his mother, Kiwi leaves behind a loving human brother, Silas. Kiwi and Silas have been buddies since Silas was born in 2010. Their relationship grew stronger as Silas aged and learned to throw tennis balls for Kiwi. Where you found Silas, you would find Kiwi. Silas anticipates that Kiwi will reincarnate as a different dog so he can adopt that dog and start fresh with a new Kiwi.
He is also survived by Cate, his human sister, his pack buddies Marshall, Huey and Bones plus some extended pet family members, Beast and Kitty. Predeceased by some of his animals friends: Amy—his sista’ from anotha’ motha’, Max, Lucy and Minnie.
To honor Kiwi, we ask you to give your dog an extra hug, scratch or treat tonight.
Rest In Peace ️
