Keela was a feisty little underdog…

Yesterday, we put down Keela, the 3-year old German Shepherd we adopted last year. She was a beauty and a feisty little underdog who courageously battled sickness. She had come a long way from where she was last summer–not knowing how to walk up stairs and fearing her reflection and butterflies. But even as she grew sweeter and more confident, her body has been falling apart. A horrible autoimmune disease, hip dysplasia, arthritis–even her vet said she had gotten ‘a rotten deal’. We’ve been managing pain and symptoms with meds, and she’s been a fighter. But when she experienced an acute flare up this week, we struggled through to accept what was the only thing we could do for her.

Thank you Dr. Maggie for the compassion and kindness you expressed to us in the midst of a very difficult, sad situation. We are grateful for your wise expertise and gentle approach.
